The boy and a five-year-old companion had been playing with a rope in a tractor shed. The Horst boy was found with the rope knotted around his neck and attached above, but his feet were still touching the ground. It is believed he became frightened when the rope first tightened around his neck, fought it and was strangled. The younger boy ran to the Horst home for help, but it was too late.
