(Mrs.) Gertrude Toews of Abbotsford, B.C.
passed away on July 24 . She was born on
May 21, 1891 to Abram and Gertrude Peters
in Reinfeld, Sagradofka, Russia. During the
typhoid epidemic her parents died on the
same day. As a young adult she accepted
Christ as her Saviour. In 1924 she was bap-
tized into the Allianz Church. In 1926 she im
migrated to Canada with a Doerksen family,
and moved to Yarrow, B.C. in 1927. She
became a member of the Yarrow Mennonite
Brethren Church when it started in 1929. She
married Franz Peter Toews, a widower, in
April 1937. Franz passed away in February
1978. She is survived by children and
spouses: Corney and Annie of Beaverlodge,
Alta., Jessie Lougheed of Grande Prairie,
Alta., Frank and Nancy of Summerland,
B.C., Emily and John Siemens of Port
Moody, B.C., Helen and Peter Wolfe of Yar-
row, Erna and Herbert Hamm of Chilliwack,
B.C. and Frank and Kay of Edmonds, Wash-
ington; 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grand-
children. Her funeral was held July 28 in the
Yarrow MB Church, with pastor A.L.
Klassen officiating.
