DAVID D. DUERKSEN

David Duerksen died Dec. 10. He was born May 23, 1923 in Russia to David K. and Maria Duerksen. The family immigrated to southern Manitoba, where David grew up. At 14, he was baptized and joined the MB Church. In 1954 he married Elfrieda Rempel. He was a poet, prose writer, and speaker who enjoyed sharing his thoughts with a wide audience. He taught high school English and instilled a passion for literature in his students. The major part of his teaching career was spent in Winnipeg. David had a passion for the church and enjoyed preaching and speaking at special events. He suffered a severe stroke at age 68 while giving a talk at Mennonite Brethren Bible College.
