Freda Wiebe died peacefully in her sleep Feb. 24. She was born Oct. 7, 1922 in Brixham, England to Albert and Victoria Gamble. On Oct. 17, 1942 she married Canadian soldier Vic Wiebe, whom she met while singing at Brixham Baptist Chapel. She and their 18-month-old son joined Vic in Canada in 1946, travelling with other war brides on the Aquitania. After Freda's arrival in her new country, the family lived near Yarrow, B.C. before moving to a dairy farm in Arnold. As their children moved to homes of their own, Freda and Vic sold the farm.
