• Jacob S. Kaufman, 87, who farmed in the Moundridge community most of his life, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Mercy Hospital there. He had been living in retirement at North Newton. Funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon at the Eden Mennonite Church, with Rev. Walter Neufeld and Dr. H. A. Fast officiating. Mr. Kaufman is survived by his widow, the former Mary Goering, of North Newton; five sons, Alvin of Windom, Pete R. of North Newton; Emil, Dan and Kenneth, all of Moundridge; six daughters, Mrs. Olga Waltner of Moundridge, Mrs. Arlene Ediger of Bradshaw, Neb., Mrs. Lucille Henry of Hutchinson, Carol Kaufman of Fresno, Calif., and Gladys and Marilyn Kaufman of Newton; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

JACOB S. KAUFMAN

Jacob S. Kaufman, son of Peter P. and Freni Strausz Kaufman was born on Sept. 28, 1885 at Moundridge, Kan. Farming was his lifetime occupation and he devoted his time and energy to the betterment of his home and farm until the time of his retirement in the spring of 1958 at North Newton, Kan.

Father was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Eden Mennonite Church on May 18, 1902, by Rev. C. J. Goering. He remained a faithful member throughout his life and was active in church affairs and responsibilities as long as health permitted. He was especially fond of church music and was a charter member of the Men's Chorus.

On Sept. 14, 1905 he married Mary Goering at Moundridge, and they were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows for 67 years.

This union was blessed with 12 children; five sons and seven daughters. One daughter, and one daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren preceded him in death. Surviving members are his family are his loving wife, Mary; Alvin, Windom, Kan.; Pete and Linda, North Newton, Kan.; Emil and Lillie, Dan and Viola, Kenneth and Meribeth, and Olga and Carl Waltner, all of Moundridge; Arlene and Henry Ediger, Bradshaw, Neb.; Lucille and Arthur Henry, Hutchinson, Kan.; Marilyn and Gladys, North Newton; and Carol, Fresno, Calif. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Joe P. Kaufman.

After a lengthy illness, father passed on to a peaceful rest on Oct. 14, 1972 at Mercy Hospital at the age of 87 years.

Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at the Eden Mennonite Church with Rev. Walter Neufeld and Dr. H. A. Fast officiating.
