Four Children Die As Indiana House Burns
Goshen, Ind. — Four children from two to eight years of age died when fire destroyed an old two-story farmhouse northwest of Millersburg after 1 a.m. on May 2.
The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wayne Bontrager, their infant daughter, Bontrager's brother Ronald and a guest in the house all escaped the burning house. The four older children were sleeping in upstairs bedrooms.
Three of the dead children were children of Mrs. Bontrager by former marriages. They were Christopher Smith, 8, Victoria Welcher, 6, and Bryan Welcher, 4. Also dead is Robert Wayne Bontrager, Jr., age 2. Funeral services were held at a Goshen funeral home with Rev. Darrell Engle of the Harmony Chapel Missionary Church officiating.
Mr. Bontrager's parents are Mr. and Mrs. William G. Bontrager of New Paris.
