DAVID K. SCHROEDER

David K. Schroeder died Jan. 26. He was born Jan. 5, 1908 to John and Katherine Schroeder in Main Centre, Sask. He helped on the family farm. He gained assurance of salvation under the ministry of Henry Wiebe and was baptized in Main Centre in 1928. He sang in quartets and choirs. He attended Herbert Bible School. He married Elizabeth Rempel Oct. 19, 1930. They lived on the farm. In 1939 he purchased Main Centre Post Office. In 1958 they moved to Swift Current, Sask. where he was porter at the Healy Hotel. Other positions included secretary-manager of Prairie Pioneer Lodge and manager of Pennant Credit Union and of Mennonite Mutual Fire Insurance. He was involved first in Main Centre MB Church, then in Swift Current (Bridgeway) MB Church. He helped organized the first MCC auction in Swift Current. He was faithful in devotions and enjoyed listening to Vernon McGee on radio. He prayed daily for his family. Family was very important. After retirement he learned to use a computer, did woodwork, sang and played guitar. He wrote e-mails, including a daily devotional for his children. Predeceased by 2 brothers; 5 sisters, he is mourned by sons Arnold Schroeder of Winnipeg, Alfred of Oakville; daughters Annabelle Martens and Sylvia Martens of Swift Current, Alvina Rempel of Calgary and Pauline Power of Edmonton; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 brother; 2 sisters. The funeral was Jan. 31 in Bridgeway Church.
