ELIZABETH JAHNKE

Elizabeth Jahnke died Aug. 5. She was born July 24, 1916 in Einlage, Russia and immigrated to Greenfarm, Sask. in 1925. She started contributing to family earnings after grade 8. In 1937 the family moved into Herbert and she attended the Mennonite church. She attended Herbert Bible School. She worked in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Swift Current, Sask. She married Peter Jahnke in 1950, becoming mother to his 3 children. They lived on a ranch in Big Coulee, Sask. She kept a huge garden, canned, baked bread and pies, churned butter, sewed, knit and embroidered. She loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to Christian radio broadcasts. She contributed craft items for the annual missions sale of the community Ladies Aid. She exemplified Christ in word and deed. Predeceased by Peter, infant daughter Carol, 2 brothers, 1 sister, she is mourned by daughters Mona Birkbeck; Diane Ganes; Marilyn Edwards; Lucy Burnett; Sheila Braun; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 3 brothers. The funeral was Aug. 9 in Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current.
