BERTA BARTEL

Berta Bartel of Coaldale, Alta., went to be with the Lord on February 16. She was born July I, 1898 in Alfons, Poland to Henry and Maria (Witzke) Jantz. Her father died when she was nine and her mother passed away 11 years later. She had three brothers and three sisters, all of whom predeceased her. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour at an early age and was always known as a happy Christian. In 1919 she was baptized and accepted into the Wymyschle Mennonite Brethren Church in central Poland. She used her gifts in music to serve the Lord both at home and in church. In 1926 she married Rudolf Bartel, a union blessed with five healthy children. She was predeceased by her husband in 1974 and a son, Richard, in 1979. Surviving are Reinhold of Winnipeg, Edward of Lethbridge, Hulda (Mrs. W.) Engel of Calgary, and Minna (Mrs. D.) Wilkins of Clearbrook, B.C.; as well as 14 grandchildren and one great grandson. The funeral was conducted from the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church on February 19 with Rudy Heidebrecht ministering.
