HENRY J. KOOP (HEINRICH JOHANN)
Heinrich Johann Koop of St. Catharines, Ont. passed away Jan. 26. He was born July 4, 1899 to Johann and Katharine Koop in Alexanderkrone, Ukraine, the eldest of 4 children. The family attended the Alexanderkone church, where his grandfather was preacher and elder and his father was song leader and secretary. He attended the village school, then the trade school, graduating in 1917. He came to faith, was baptized and joined the church. He married Tinchen (Katharina) Dueck Sept. 6, 1924. In 1925 they immigrated to Canada with his family, staying briefly in Leamington, Ont., then moving to Manitoba to farm. They moved to Vineland, Ont. in 1947, then St. Catharines, farming in both places. Katharina died in 1988. He continued to live at home, cared for by daughter Edith. Predeceased by Katharina, son John in 1998 and a great-grandson in 1988, he is mourned by 4 daughters; 9 sons; 37 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Jan. 31 in Vineland MB Church, with Robert Martin-Koop and Henry Wiebe ministering.
