PETER J. NIGHTINGALE

Peter J. Loewen of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away Sept. 13. He was born Mar. 10, 1915 to Jacob and Anna Loewen in Engowsk, Russia. In 1925, they immigrated to Crowfoot, Alta. He accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized in the MB church as a young adult. As the eldest son, he got a minimum education and attended 3 years of Bible school, while working to support the family. In 1939 he met Martha Friesen; they were married Jan. 24, 1943. He worked as a C.O. in B.C. during World War II. They farmed near Vauxhall, Alta. until 1963. They moved to Matsqui, B.C., where he owned and operated Bungalow Garage, becoming known as an expert on farm machinery and sawdust trucks. In 1973 he began to work for Avenue Farm Machinery in Abbotsford. The family had a strong faith in God and his sufficiency and an appreciation of music, singing God's praises and promises as an antidote for life's trials. They went to Kalimantan to repair machinery for the RBMU mission. Cancer was discovered in 1987. He is remembered for his strong Christian faith, dedication to family, gentle spirit, generosity, sense of humour and joy of living. Predeceased by 6 siblings and 1 son, he is survived by his wife; children Charles, Marjorie Toftager, Evelyn Neufeldt and Karen Bergen; 13 grandchildren; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. The funeral was Sept. 17 in Central Heights Church, Abbotsford, with Herb Neufeld ministering.
