JOHANN TOEWS
Johann Toews of Steinbach, Man. passed away Oct. 22. He was born Apr. 28, 1898 to Johann Peter and Anna Toews in Nordheim, Russia. He had an early childhood encounter with his Saviour and was baptized in the MB church at age 16. The love of his mother and the strong hand of his father nurtured his spiritual development. He was drafted into the medical (corps, serving from 1914 till fall, 1916. He married Justina Unger Aug. 14, 1922. In November, 1926 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Gnadenthal, Man. in 1927. After 11 difficult years, he bought a small farm in Steinbach, Man. in 1939. Justina passed away Dec. 27, 1965. He married Clara Hutt Nov. 19, 1966. In their retirement home in Steinbach they took pleasure in serving the church and community.

He is mourned by his children Maria Stuart, John, Anna Janzen, Victor, Lena Enns and Henry and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral was Oct. 26 in Steinbach MB Church, with Cornie Rempel ministering.
