ISAAC I. BERGEN
Isaac 1. Bergen of Chilliwack, B.C. was called home on December 1. He was born on April 9, 1898 to Isaac K. and Katharina (Friesen) Bergen in Shernoglas, Ekaterinoslav, southern Russia. The family lived in Millerowa before moving to Danzig in 1918. They immigrated to Rosthern, Sask. in 1921. In 1927 he was converted, and in 1930 was baptized into the Mennonite Brethren church by Rev. Jacob Lepp. He married Margaret Welk in 1927, with Rev. Jacob Janzen of Laird performing the ceremony. The couple lived in Saskatoon for several years, then moved to Morden, Man. for eight years. In 1946 they moved to B.C., settling in Greendale until moving to Chilliwack in 1958. During that time he became known as a building contractor.
The family remembers him as a productive, faithful, and thankful man. He was thankful for his family, and for the ministry of God's Word and prayer. He is survived by his wife Margaret and by three sons and one daughter: David and Lydia of Dinuba, Calif., Bill and Erika of Yarrow, B.C., Kathy and Harry Suckau of Kelowna, B.C., and Herbert and Marianna of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by brothers Corney of Vancouver and Dave of Rosthern.
