JACOB B. STOBBE
Jacob Stobbe of Saskatoon passed into the presence of the Lord on September 23. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Stobbe on November 24,1903 in the village of Suworowskaya, Russia. As a lad he immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1911. For five years they lived north of Langham, Sask., and then in 1917 they moved to Borden, Sask., which became the family home for 41 years . Jacob's life unfolded and blossomed in this community. Here, in 1918, he received Christ as his personal Saviour, and the same year, in fall, was baptized and received into the membership of the Borden Mennonite Brethren church. On July 17, 1927 he was married to Agnes Derksen, a union blessed with three sons and four daughters. One daughter predeceased him.
He was a farmer by occupation and an active member of the church by vocation. To serve God in serving his fellow men was his joy and delight. In 1936 the church called him to the diaconate, a ministry he continued until his death. He also gladly taught, Sunday school when asked to. Tests also came. In 1943 he lost a hand in a straw cutter, yet with the help of friends, faith in God and an optimistic nature, he continued to provide for the needs of his family. In 1958 he and his wife retired from farming and moved to Saskatoon, where they continued to serve God as the Lord opened doors to ministry. A special joy to the family was the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Agnes; and children, Arnold and wife Helena, Anne and husband Henry Bargen, John and wife Margaret, Edward and wife Selma, Alice and husband Ben Redekop, Adeline and husband Gilbert Berg, and 28 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
