MRS. HELEN REGIER

Mrs. Helen Regier, daughter of Henry H. and Margaretha (Regier) Toevs, was born May 21, 1896 at Newton, Kan. and departed from this life on March 28, 1970, having reached the age of 73 years, 10 months and seven days.

Her early years were spent in the Newton community where she attended local schools and one year at Bethel Academy. Later she moved with her parents to Parsons, Kan. where she attended one year of business college. Then she returned to Newton where she worked a total of eight years as clerk in Newton stores.

Upon her confession of faith she was baptized by Rev. Jacob Toevs on May 11, 1913 and was received into the First Mennonite Church of Newton. After her marriage she transferred her membership to the Emmaus Mennonite Church near Whitewater, Kan. where she remained a faithful member till her death.

She married Cornelius P. Regier on Sept. 11, 1925 and they shared life together for 44 years, most of this time on a farm near Peabody, Kan.

Although in poor health the last four years because of a cardiac condition she remained quite active until the last 16 months. She sewed 70 children's blankets for missions during this time and as health permitted continued to take active part in the Catlin Mennonite Sewing Circle at Peabody.

She leaves to mourn her husband; two daughters and one son, Darlene of Peabody, Dorothea and husband Herbert D. Goering of Independence, Mo., and Lawrence and wife Beverly of Wichita, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.

Five sisters and three brothers survive: Mrs. Ella Kelchner, Siloam Springs, Ark.; Henry Toevs, Newton; William F. Toevs, Sanford, Fla.; Mrs. Margaret Wheeler, Mrs. Frieda Menne, Mrs. Martha Reed, Mrs. Elvera Kuffler, and Herman Toevs all of Parsons, Kan. One brother Arthur preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Emmaus Mennonite Church on March 31, 1970, with Rev. L. R. Amstutz and Rev. S. D. Hartzler in charge. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
