Mrs. Menno E. Schmidt, 66, died Saturday evening at Bethel Deaconess Hospital after an extended illness of cancer. The former Esther Unruh of the Goessel community, she married Menno Schmidt in 1923. He was a former mayor of Newton and was long associated with Regier Loan and Abstract until his retirement. He died in December 1968. Mrs. Schmidt was active in several community organizations, among them the Harvey County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, of which she had been secretary. She was a member of the Bethel College Church where the funeral was conducted Tuesday forenoon by Dr. Lloyd Ramseyer and Rev. Esko Loewen. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Niles of Newton and Mrs. Bob Reber of Halstead; six grandchildren; four sisters and one brother. | Mrs. Menno E.
