Funeral services were held Aug. 9 in the First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg, Man. for John (Jean) Thiessen, 64, who died there from cancer Aug. 7 in Concordia Hospital. Thiessen was among the well-known group of 62 refugees who fled Communist Russia through Constantinople in the early 1920's. For a short while he was employed by the Herald Publishing Co., then left Newton for Chicago where he established his own printing plant. His wife, one son and two daughters survive.
