MRS. MARGARET RUTSCHMAN

Mrs. Margaret Rutschman, daughter of Benjamin and Anna Harms Schmidt, was born Jan. 6, 1885, at Newton, Kansas and on April 15, 1962 went to spend eternity with her Lord. She reached the age of 77 years, three months, and nine days.

It was her privilege to grow up in a Christian home where prayer and communion with God were part of family life. In her early childhood days she learned to love and serve Jesus who became her personal Saviour and also Lord and Master of her life. Since the family was large and in pioneer days money was not plentiful, as a girl she spent much time doing house work in other homes.

As a young girl she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior by Elder G. N. Harms and received as a member of the Grace Hill Mennonite Church of which she remained a faithful member to the end of her earthly life.

She was married to Herman Ewert on June 8, 1911 and shared a happy home life with him until his death on Oct. 12, 1952. On March 27, 1955 she was married to David Rutschman and shared the joys and sorrows of life with him until April 15, 1962. It was a great joy to her to become a mother and grandmother through her second marriage since there had been no children in the first marriage. Although the children and grandchildren were only step-children and step-grandchildren, she accepted and loved them as her own.

Immediate relatives who passed on before her were her first husband, Herman Ewert; two sisters, Susanna and Martha; and two-in-law, John Z. Harms and Reynold Becker.

Relatives who remain are her husband, David Rutschman; his children, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Langenegger, Mrs. Vera Gilchrist, Mrs. Evelyn Scivally, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rutschman, Rev. and Mrs. La Verne Rutschman, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Isaac and their families; four sisters, Mary, Mrs. John Z. Harms, Esther, Mrs. Reynold Becker, Katrine and Rose, Mrs. H. R. Schmidt; and five brothers, Paul, Philip, Menno, Chris and Sam Schmidt.
