— A heart attack suffered Friday, April 21, while at work on his farm northeast of Burrton proved fatal to David F. Dick, 45. His wife became alarmed when he failed to return home, and searchers found his body in a machine shed about a mile from the house. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Burrton Mennonite Church, with Rev. G. G. Yoder in charge, assisted by Rev. Roy Henry. Mr. Dick's brother Fred, well-known Halstead contractor, died Feb. 28 following heart surgery. David Frank Dick, son of Frank and Helen Ratzlaff Dick, was born on Feb. 28, 1916 in Buhler, Kansas. He died following a heart attack on April 21, 1961 near Burrton, Kansas at the age of 45 years, one month and 24 days. | |||
On Dec. 1, 1940 he became a member of the Burrton Mennonite Church by baptism. He was baptized by Rev. J. J. Regier. He attended his last worship service on Sunday morning, April 16. | |||
On August 4, 1940 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ruth Regier. In addition to his widow, Evelyn, he is survived by three sons, Dennis Dean, 18, Roger Lee, 15, and Ronald Ray, 11, all of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Helen Dick of Burrton; two brothers, Clarence of Oroville, Calif. and John of Halstead; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence Scherling of St. Elmo, Ill., Mrs. Minnie Stucky and Mrs. Laura Bickel of Wichita, and Mrs. Evelyn Dalke of Travis Air Force Base in California. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Dick, a brother Fred E. Dick, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Mae Regier. | |||
Most of his life was spent in the Burrton community where he attended a rural grade school and the Burrton High School. With the exception of one year, his entire married life was spent on the farm. Dave loved the out-of-doors and the soil which helped him enjoy his chosen vocation of farming. He especially enjoyed truck farming and working with fruit trees. Just this spring he planted 40 fruit trees. He had hoped to work with these trees and to enjoy the fruit of his labors, but now they will remain to bless the memories of those whom he has left behind. | |||
