A native of Whitewater, Mr. Schmidt farmed in the Newton and Augusta communities before his retirement. He was a member of the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita. He leaves his widow, Caroline, six sons, four daughters, and 29 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Ethel Walker, resides in Newton. | |||

DANIEL W. SCHMIDT
Daniel W. Schmidt was born to Henry and Helena (Vogt) Schmidt in the Whitewater, Kan. community on Oct. 18, 1878.
He accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized on June 23, 1901, by Elder G. N. Harms, becoming a member of the Grace hill church. He was united in marriage to Caroline Schmidt on Nov. 19, 1908. He taught school and served as a board member in the church.
He farmed in the Newton and Augusta communities. He retired from farming in 1948 and moved to Wichita, Kan., where he joined the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church and remained a faithful member until his death, Jan. 2, 1961.
He leaves to mourn his passing his widow Caroline, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Peters (Luella), Mr. and Mrs. Speck (Hilda), Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schmidt, all of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. John Schmidt of Douglass, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Walker (Ethel) of Newton Rt. 2, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schmidt of Harper, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Doyle (Esther) of Phoenix, Ariz., and 29 grandchildren, relatives and a host of friends.
Services were held in the Grace Hill Church on Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Herbert F. Miller, Pastor, C. D. Boese, Walton, and George Stoneback, McPherson, officiating.
