— Henry A. Ewert, 80, a Newton resident for many years, died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Lichti, in Reedley, Calif. where he had been visiting. Since the death of his wife on Dec. 16, 1956 Mr. Ewert had made his home with another daughter, Mrs. Gerhard Klassen of Buhler. The body is being returned here, accompanied by Mrs. Lichti and son Marlin, and funeral services are announced for Friday at 2 p. m. in the First Mennonite church. A native of Marion county, Mr. Ewert was a retired farmer. Surviving in addition to the two daughters are two sons, Irvin of Dinuba, Calif. and Walter of Route 3, Newton; three sisters and two brothers; and 11 grandchildren.

HENRY A. EWERT

Henry A. Ewert, son of Franz and Aganetha Unruh Ewert, was born in Marion County, near Hillsboro, Kan. on April 26,1879. His soul quietly slipped away to be with its Maker while he was asleep, on Nov. 30, 1959, reaching the age of 80 years, seven months and three days.

He received his education in the Garden Township schools near Moundridge, Kan. At the age of 17, upon the confession of his faith in Christ as his Saviour, he was baptized by Rev. S. S. Baumgartner and became a member of the Garden Township Mennonite church. When later they moved to Newton, Kan. he transferred his membership to the First Mennonite church.

On Jan. 12, 1908 he was joined in holy matrimony to Susie Krause, who preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1956. This union was blessed with six children of whom two preceded him in death in their childhood. He was a devoted husband and father, quiet, and faithful in having devotions in the home and going to the house of the Lord.

Retiring from the farm in 1945 they moved to Newton, Kansas until mother's passing, after which he made his home with his youngest daughter, Mrs. George Klassen in Buhler, Kan. For the most part father enjoyed good health. During the past year he developed a slight heart condition but was able to accompany his brother and a sister to California. Ten days of happy fellowship was enjoyed with all brothers and sisters present. His plans were to remain in California for the winter months to be with his children. But we must say, “Der Mensch denkt und gott lenkt.”

He is survived by the following children: Elda (Mrs. Rudolph Lichti) of Parlier, Calif.; Walter of Route 3, Newton; Irvin of Dinuba, Calif.; and Linda (Mrs. George Klassen) of Buhler, Kan. he also leaves 14 grandchildren (one preceded him in death); two brothers, Frank of Hooker, Okla. and Ferd of McPherson, Kan.; three sisters, Martha (Mrs. Wm. Auernheimer) of Reedley, Calif., Emma (Mrs. Dan Langenwalter) of Richmond, Calif., and Laura (Mrs. Aron Reimer) of Denver, Colo.

Although our loss is keenly felt, we sorrow not as those who have no hope, for we shall meet again where there will be no parting. — The Family.
