— Mrs. C. K. Jantzen, 73, died Tuesday evening at the Bethel Home for Aged where she had been a resident for the past three years. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Mennonite church. Her husband died on May 14 of this year. Surviving are seven sons and one daughter, and a number of brothers and sisters, among them Mrs. Marie Funk and Mrs. Henry F. Unruh of Newton.

— Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah [sic Sara] Janzen, 73, who died Oct. 13 at the Bethel Home for Aged, were held Saturday afternoon at the First Mennonite church, Rev. Arnold Epp officiating. Mrs. Janzen, the former Sarah [sic Sara] Hiebert, was born at Inman. Her husband, C. K. Janzen, preceded her in death by exactly five months.

MRS. SARA H. JANZEN

Mrs. Sarah Hiebert Janzen, daughter of Abraham and Sarah (Unruh) Hiebert, was born on Jan. 31, 1886 near Inman, Kansas. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior by Rev. Peter Balzer and received as a member into the Alexanderwohl church near Goessel.

On April 6, 1909 she was united in marriage to Cornelius K. Janzen. They established their home on a farm in Marion county and she transferred her membership to the Tabor Mennonite church. Eight children, seven sons and one daughter, were born to this union. Mother was very active and she appreciated her home and her family. She loved to read her Bible and sing hymns as long as she was able.

It was a joyous occasion for the parents to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with their family and friends.

In 1943 they moved to Newton, Kansas, and transferred their membership to the First Mennonite church of which she remained a faithful member until her death.

Mother enjoyed comparatively good health until Dec. 20, 1956 when she became very ill and was taken to the Bethel Deaconess hospital. She recovered sufficiently to return home the next day. She suffered a severe stroke on Jan. 13, 1957 which left her in a paralyzed and weakened condition. After a number of months in the hospital she was transferred to the Bethel Home for Aged where she received hospital care. She was very patient in her suffering, and very appreciative for everything that was done for her.

On April , 1959 the parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the Bethel Home. Due to her condition only the immediate family attended. They shared life's joys and sorrows for 50 years and one month, when father passed away very suddenly on May 14 of this year.

Mother suffered much and often wondered why, but her testimony was that the Lord had a purpose in it, and that when He saw fit to call her home, He would take her. She maintained her steadfast faith to the end. She departed from this life on Oct. 13, 1959 at the age of 73 years, eight months and 13 days.

She leaves to cherish her memory the following children: Abe and Elizabeth of Hutchinson, Curt and Katie of Newton, Elmer and Elma of Wichita, Lydia and Frank Flaming of Lehigh, Adolf and Alice of Enid, Okla., Walter of the home, Edwin and Mary Jane of Elbing, and Art and Louise of Newton; 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Susie, Mrs. H. F. Unruh, Anna, Mrs. R. R. Funk of Hillsboro; Marie, Mrs. G. R. Funk of Newton, and Helen, Mrs. J. J. Buller of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, David of Portland, Oregon, and Albert of Burns; and many other relatives and friends.
