RUDOLPH BARTEL

Rudolph was born in Leonov, Poland on February 16, 1899 to Gerhard Wilhelmina Bartel (nee Foth). He had three brothers and two sisters. One sister is still living in Germany.

His youth and school years were spent in his home village, where his parents strove to give their children a Christian upbringing At the age of seventeen, he was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite church.

He married Berta Janz on August 17, 1926. Five children all of whom survive their father, were born to them, three sons and two daughters: Reinhold in Winnipeg, Richard and Edward in Lethbridge, Hilda Engel in Calgary and Minna Wilkins in Clearbrook, B.C. In addition to these children, three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, and fourteen grandchildren survive their father and grandfather.

With God's help, the family found a new home in Canada in 1948. The Lord blessed them richly, materially and spiritually About ten years ago Mr. Bartel accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. Since that time he spent much time in prayer and in searching the Scriptures; he tried to serve the Lord in childlike faith.

On January 9 the Lord called him to his heavenly home, at the age of nearly 75 years. The funeral was held in Coaldale, Alta.
