JACOB P. UNRUH
Jacob P. Unruh, son of Peter H. and Julina [sic Juliana] (Siebert) Unruh, was born on June 25, 1890, near Goessel, Kansas and departed this life July 28, 1952, at the age of 62 years, one month and three days.
With the exception of a few years, Jacob spent his entire life in the Goessel community. He grew to manhood at the home of his parents, who lived on a farm three miles south of Goessel. He also attended the rural public school; however, his educational opportunities were very limited.
On May 11, 1913, he publicly confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Tabor Mennonite church, where he remained a member until death.
At the age of 28 he was united in marriage to Mary Franz of Buhler, Kansas. They established their home at that place, where he was employed by the Buhler Milling company. However, soon thereafter they moved to a farm southeast of Buhler. One daughter was born to this union.
Several years later, he came back to the Goessel community, where he lived the remaining years of his life. After a few more years of farm life, he became a resident of Goessel, where he was employed for a number of years as a clerk in the Voth grocery store. While living in Goessel, he attended the Goessel Mennonite church until his health began to fail.
For a number of years he suffered from a heart ailment which became much more noticeable during the last few years, when an anemic and dropsical condition developed. However, still being able to care for himself, he always preferred to live in the quietness of his secluded home. During confinement to his home, he spent much time in reading and in listening to religious programs that came into his home by radio.
On Monday morning, July 28, he was found in a serious condition by one of his neighbors. Help was summoned and he was taken to the Bethesda hospital where he passed away at 1:15 in the afternoon.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Paulyne Emerson of South San Francisco, Calif.; one grandson, Duane Keller; two brothers, Isaac Unruh of Kansas City, Mo., and Ed P. Unruh of Phoenix, Ariz., one sister-in-law, oen nephew, three nieces, one uncle, two aunts, and other relatives and and [sic] friends.
Funeral services were held July 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the Tabor Mennonite church near Goessel. The pastor, Rev. H. B. Schmidt, officiated. Interment was made in the Tabor cemetery.
