THEODORE SCHMIDT
Theodore Schmidt, youngest son of Peter P. Schmidt and Helena Voth Schmidt, was born in Marion County, Kansas on Oct. 13, 1898. He passed away on Jan. 26, 1957, having reached the age of 58 years, three months and 13 days.
He was baptized in 1917 by Rev. P. H. Unruh and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Church. In 1924 he transferred his membership to the Goessel Mennonite Church.
On July 30, 1924, he was united in marriage to Mary Boese. They established their home on a farm near Goessel, where he lived until the time of his departure. This union was blessed with five children, two sons and three daughters.
Except for impaired hearing, our father enjoyed comparatively good health. He had a strong faith in God and sought His guidance throughout his life. As a husband and father he was patient and gentle; dearly loved his children and grandchildren, and was much concerned that all should accept Christ as their Saviour. He attended church regularly and served wherever he could.
A year ago his health began to fail, and after an operation last fall it was disclosed that he had cancer. He knew that his time was limited, but he accepted this as the will of God and bore his illness patiently.
The last two weeks he failed very rapidly and was admitted to the Bethesda Hospital where he quietly passed away on Saturday morning, Jan. 26.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Mary; his children, Helen and George Stephens of Denver, Wilbert and Eunice Schmidt of Goessel, Donald and Elaine Schmidt of Denver, Mildred and Harvey Loewen of Mountain Lake, Minn., and Esther at home; four grandchildren; three brothers, Karl of Canton, Adolf of Goessel, John of Hillsboro; five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Schroeder of Newton, Miss Mary Schmidt of Hillsboro, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmidt of Newton, Mrs. Helena Schmidt of Newton, and Mrs. Anna Goertz of Canton.
His parents and one sister, Emma Duerksen, preceded him in death.
He was laid to rest Jan. 28 in the Goessel cemetery. Rev. Leo L. Miller, pastor of the Goessel Mennonite church, and Rev. P. A. Wedel, pastor of the Alexanderwohl church, officiated at the services.
