JACOB REIMER
Jacob Reimer, of Port Rowan, Ont., was born in Tiegenhagen, southern Russia, February 22, 1898, to Jacob and Maria Reimer. His childhood and youth were spent in Tiegenhagen, where he also received his elementary education. His high school he received in Hallbstadt.
Upon confession of faith, he was baptized and received into the Lichtenauer Mennonite Church. On May 4, 1928 he was united to Margareta Poetker; their marriage was blessed with eight children.
In November 1925, he emigrated to Canada with his wife and two children, staying at Selkirk, Ontario, for a while and then settling at Port Rowan.
In 1942, he joined the Mennonite Brethren Church. For many years he put his talents to use for the Lord as choir leader, Sunday School teacher and church secretary.
In 1968 he suffered a heart attack, making it necessary to give up all strenuous work. He retired from farming and built a home near the church, but his mind concerned itself not built with hands (2 Cor. 5:1). He realized that his time was in God's hands, whose ways are above questions.
He was called home to be with his Lord on May 13, 1972. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Margareta, three sons: Jake, Henry, and Bill of Port Rowan, four daughters: Mary (Mrs. Jacob) Penner, Justice, Man.; Margaret, (Mr. Peter) Driedger, Port Rowan; Helen) (Mrs. John) Heinrichs, Port Rowan, and Erna (Mrs. Henry) Hiebert, Port Rowan; 34 grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, one son, one grandson and three sisters.
