REV. JACOB P. DYCK

Jacob P. Dyck, the son of Peter and Barbara Dyck, was born in the village of Pastva, Russia, on April 23, 1894. As a child he was much impressed by the influence of a beloved teacher, H. Regehr. The songs that they sang together left their imprint upon his young mind, and undoubetedly formed the seedbed for some of his later experiences. Another event that helped to shape his future was the spiritual revival that swept through their village. A number of Bible studies were started as a result of this awakening. Touched by the Spirit of God, he sought for truth and a spiritual encounter with God. In 1912, he recognized his lost condition and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and Lord.

In 1929 he left Russia with his wife and young family and in 1930 they came to Canada. For the next 17 years they lived in Hepburn, Sask. During this time he was engaged in colportage work and was ordained to the preaching ministry. He was able to point many a sin-sick pilgrrm to the Lord. He often spoke of this time as a special period of divine blessings.

In 1948 the family came to Virgil, Ont., where he became the leader of the Virgil Church . In 1963 they moved to St. Catharines, Ont.

In 1920 he married Tina Janzen, with whom he shared 21 years. God blessed them with six children. After the death of his first wife in 1941, Susie Voth joined the family as wife and mother in 1942. Three sons were born to them. During the 29 years of united fellowship, they again and again experienced the mercy and the all sufficient grace of their Lord .

Although brother Dyck did not enjoy the blessing of good health, he maintained an optimistic outlook on life, and witnessed to many of the blessed hope of the redeemed. On May 11 the Lord took his soul into the blessed abode of the saved.

He leaves to mourn his wife, seven sons, two daughters, 18 grandchildren, two great grand-children, two brothers, one sister and many friends.
