MRS. ELIZABETH WEDEL
Mrs. Elizabeth (Goering) Wedel, daughter of John and Freni Krehbiel Goering, was born Feb. 13, 1877, near Moundridge, Kansas. Here she spent her childhood days and attended the district and also the religious school.
After receiving catechetical instruction she was baptized upon confession of faith in her Redeemer Jesus Christ by Rev. Jacob Stucky, and became a member of the Hoffnungs-Feld (Eden) church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.
She was united in marriage to Andrew J. Wedel on Dec. 10, 1896. They were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows for a little over 34years, when death took her husband, our father, from her side. The Lord gave them seven children, all of them pay their respects to their beloved mother and follow her casket to the grave.
The departed mother experienced the privation and hardships of pioneer life most forcefully since the country was then merely a pioneer country. She diligently aided her parents in providing for the home in those strenuous years, when making a living was somewhat difficult.
She was a dear mother who was sincerely concerned for her children and did all she could to promote their welfare and happiness. Her life was also filled with many hardships, especially in times when she suffered repeated illness. However her trust and faith in her Saviour carried her thorugh [sic] the many trials that confronted her.
In the last days of her life she longed intensely to be redeemed from pain and suffering, and to her also was given the promise, "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that should be revealed in us." Rom. 8:18. We believe that she is now living in that glory.
Since 1946, mother had lived with her children, making her home with each one of them.
In the last year her health began to decline rapidly. She was also hospitalized repeatedly. She passed away in the Mercy hospital in Moundridge in the morning of April 11, 1955, reaching the age of 78 years, one month and 28 days.
She leaves to mourn her death the following children: Phillip A. Wedel, his wife Rose and family of Goessel, Ks; Jacob A. Wedel, his wife Lily and family of Moundridge; Anna, Mrs. David B. Stucky, her husband and family, Moundridge; Arthur A. Wedel, his wife Elizabeth and family, Halstead, Kansas; Martha, Mrs. Albert Regier, her husband and family, Moundridge; Paul A. Wedel and his wife Martha, Moundridge; Esther, Mrs. Ellis Goering, her husband and family, Moundridge. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren (one having preceded her in death); six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. C. C. Stucky, Mrs. Eli S. Stucky, Mrs. Gideon Stucky; one brother, John B. Boering; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph A. Goering, and one brother-in-law, Gideon Stucky; and many other relatives and friends Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
"They desire a better country, that is, a heavenly; wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he hath promised for them a city" Heb. 11:16.
Funeral services were held in the home and in the Eden church April 13, 1955, in charge of her pastor, Rev. Peter Dyck, who was assisted by Rev. Sam Goering of North Newton. Interment was made in the Eden Church cemetery.
