● Henry A. Goering, 87, retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Moundridge community, died at Bethel Hospital here on Aug. 9. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Eden Mennonite Church with Rev. Walter Neufeld officiating. Mr. Goering leaves his widow, the former Lydia Stuckey; five sons, Rev. Roland of Hillsboro, Wilbert, Harley and Vernon, all of Moundridge, and Howard of Peabody; seven daughters, Mrs. Dan. W. Goering of McPherson, Mrs. Warren Swanson of Burns, Mrs. David Thiessen of Peabody, Mrs. Harold Schmidt of Newton, Mrs. Reuben Schrag of Little River, Mrs. Richard Regier of Burrton, and Mrs. Leslie Thiessen of Moundridge, two sisters, Mrs. Sol Krehbiel of Moundridge and Miss Anna Goering of Newton; 34 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

HENRY A. GOERING

Henry A. Goering was born southwest of Moundridge, Kan. on Aug. 13, 1884, approximately 10 years after his parents, Adolph and Maria Goering, came to the prairies of Kansas from Volhynia, Russia.

Because of the amount of work that needed to be done in those early days, he did not have the privilege of fully completing the first eight grades. Often he was able to attend only intermittent portions of any given school term.

He was always ready to help where he could, share what he had, and give to worthy charitable causes and to the work of God's Kingdom. The church played a vital role in his life. On May 18, 1902 he was baptized by Rev. C. J. Goering and received into the Eden Mennonite Church, being a member of the first antithetical class to be baptized by Rev. Goering. He remained an active member of this church, serving as church treasurer for a time and on the Board of Deacons for several years.

On Oct. 14, 1913 he married Lydia Elizabeth Stucky. Their infant daughter, Maria Martha, died on the day of her birth; and another baby daughter, Violet Helen, died of pneumonia when only seven months old. All of the 12 children who grew to maturity are still living.

He lived in the Moundridge community all his life. He lived on the farm as long as he was able to pursue the vocation of farming. When his advancing are made retirement a necessity, they moved to town. For the past year and a half they have been residents of Memorial Home south of Moundridge.

He was admitted to Mercy Hospital on Aug. 2, and transferred to Bethel Deaconess Hospital on Aug. 7 where he passed away on Aug. 9, 1972.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his devoted wife; seven daughters; Emma and husband Daniel W. Goering of McPherson, Florence and husband Warren Swanson of Burns, Welma and husband David Thiessen of Peabody, Welda and husband Harold Schmidt of Newton, Ellen and husband Reuben Schrag of Little River, Lorita and husband Richard Regier of Burrton, and Joy and husband Leslie Thiessen of Moundridge; five sons, Roland and wife Fern of Hillsboro, Wilbert and wife Erma of Moundridge, Howard and wife Darlene of Peabody, Harley of Moundridge, and Vernon and wife Marna of Moundridge; two sisters, Anna of Newton and Mrs. Solomon P. Krehbiel of Memorial Home, Moundridge; seven brothers-in-law and/or sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elias B. Stucky, Mrs. David B. Stucky, Gerhard Zerger, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew B. Flickner, Mrs. Ben R. Stucky, and Frieda Stucky, all of Moundridge; 34 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
