MRS. SUSANA SMITH
Mrs. Susana Smith died at the age of 68 years, two months and four days at the house of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Speicher, near Benton, Indiana, on January 12, 1946, at 9:30 P.M. after a short illness of 10 days, of heart complications.
She was the youngest daughter among 14 children born to Henry and Catharine Yontz near Belleville, Pa., soon after their arrival from Russia.
In her early years a part of the Yontz family moved to Avon, South Dakota, where she was united in marriage to John Smith. To this union were born three daughters and two sons. Her eldest daughter, Adda Lena, preceded her in death.
When her children were small, she lived near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, but in 1909 moved to the vicinity of Goshen, Indiana, where she had two brothers living.
Surviving are two sons, Simon J. and Samuel B. Smith of Goshen, Indiana, and a step-brother, Fred Lutke of near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Funeral services were held in the Eighth Street Mennonite church where she was a member, the Rev. A. K. Kreider and Rev. J. E. Hartzler officiating. Burial was made in the Maple Grove cemetery near Topeka, Indiana.
She was a devout Christian mother and is missed very much by her family and her many friends.
Note: Susana's husband John appears to have changed his surname from Schmidt to Smith.
