AGNETHA SCHMIDT UNRUH

Agnetha Schmidt Unruh, youngest of the seven children of Peter and Margaretha Berg Schmidt was born in Kleefeld, South Russia on April 29, 1868. In 1874, when seven years old, she came with her parents to America. They made their home in McPherson county, Kans., where she spent her youth.

She was baptized by Elder Jacob Buller on June 13, 1886, and received as a member into the Alexanderwohl church.

She was married Aug. 26, 1890, to Peter J. Unruh by Rev. Jacob Buller. They made their home with her parents for one year and nine months. After this they made their home in Marion county, Kans. where they lived for 54 years. This union was blessed with six sons and two daughters.

When in 1908 the Tabor church was organized, she became a charter member and remained, a faithful member until her death.

The parents celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on Aug. 26, 1915, and the golden wedding on Aug. 26, 1940, and the children were all present both times. They shared joys and sorrows for over 56 years.

Father preceded her in death March 13, 1947. After his death she made her home in Halstead. On Dec 1, 1948, she took ill and was taken to the Goessel hospital, where she spent seven weeks. When she was dismissed from the hospital Mrs. Katie Hollbracht took care of her in her home for 12 weeks. On Oct 4 she suffered an attack which paralyzed her right side and also left her unable to talk. On Oct. 6 she was taken to the hospital where she also died on the 26th of October.

She was a devoted mother. In her younger years she often sang hymns. In later years she often read her Bible and was also very faithful in her family devotion.

She leaves to mourn her death her eight children: Abram B., Gerhard, Heinrich, Peter B., Simon, Theodore, of the home, Mrs. Margaret Schmidt, Mrs. Christina Krause; 32 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. One grandchild preceded her in death. She was the youngest of seven children and the last one to die.
