MRS. CLARA AUERNHEIMER

Clara Goebel Auernheimer was born Feb. 4, 1879 to Christian and Anna Risser Goebel at Summerfield, Ill. She went to her heavenly reward on Feb. 7 at the age of 85, having celebrated her birthday three days previously.

At four years of age she moved with the family to Moundridge, Kan. where she received her elementary education at Dist. 51 school. She lived there for 21 years. Upon confession of faith she was baptized by Rev. Wm. Galle and received into the Garden Township Mennonite Church on Nov. 19, 1893.

On Dec. 14, 1904 she was united in holy matrimony to Adolph Andrew Auernheimer in the Garden Church. Following their marriage they lived at Deer Creek and Gotebo, Okla. where one son and three daughters were born. In 1912 they moved to Kansas where the family settled near Halstead and later Burrton, Kansas. Here three more sons were born into the family circle.

In 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Auernheimer made sale and moved to California to be near three of their children. In two years they were back on the farm but in 1949 they again moved to California. In 1957 they returned to Kansas and spent a number of years in Halstead and one in Augusta, to be near three other children and a host of friends.

Survivors include her husband; seven children, Jacob and Selma Auernheimer of Reedley, Calif.; Mrs. Florence Gomez of Los Angeles; Mrs. Ann Pankratz of Augusta, Kan.; Walter of Wichita Kan.; Arthur of Phoenix, Ariz., and Roy of Halstead. One Brother, Peter Goebel of the Bethel Home in Newton also survives as do 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

In spite of poor health for many years she had maintained a keen interest in her family and relatives and a host of close friends. She was a faithful wife and mother and loyal to the church wherever she was. Mr. and Mrs. Auernheimer celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last Dec. 14.

Memorial services were held in the Mennonite Church in Halstead on Sunday, Feb. 9, with Rev. Aaron Epp, her former pastor in the Reedley church, and Rev. Arnold Funk of Halstead officiating. Interment was made in the Garden Township church cemetery.
