Jacob H. Krehbiel (Moundridge), Sohn von Christian und Maria Schnebele Krehbiel, ward am 13. Mai 1860 in Lee County, Iowa geboren, und starb im Alter von 85 J. und 6 Monaten. Er besuchte als Junge die öffentlichen Volksschulen und die Kirche von der heimatlichen Farm aus bis er nach Kansas kam im Dezember 1884. Schon am 5. Oktober hatte er öffentliches Zeugnis von seinem christlichen Glauben abgelegt und ward von Aelt. Christian Schowalter getauft und schloß sich zu Donnellson, Iowa der Zion Mennonitengemeinde an. In Februar 1886 nahm er die Arbeit auf auf seiner Farm, wo er den Rest seines Lebens wohnte und wirkte. Am 13. Februar 1887 heiratete er Lena A. Ledig und es wurden ihnen 2 Söhne und 3 Töchter geboren. In Kansas schlossen sie sich der Ersten Mennoniten Gemeinde zu Christian an, und später als die West Zion Gemeinde organisiert wurde, schlossen sie sich da als Gründungsglieder an, wo er Glied blieb. Er bekundete ein reges Interesse für Kirche und Konferenz. Seine Gattin wurde im Mai 1928 von seiner Seite heimgerufen. Es trauern um ihn Samuel und Alice daheim; Herbert zu Junction City; und Leona zu North Newton. Eine Tochter Maude (Frau J. S. Friesen) starb am 24. Mai 1937. Auch eine Schwester, Frau John E. Krebill, Long Beach, California, und eine Schwiegertochter trauern mit vielen Freunden um ihn. Die Begräbnisfeier fand am 15. November in der West Zion Kirche statt, wobei der Gemeindeälteste W. F.Unruh und Aelt. J. H. Langenwalter dienten, und ein Männerquartett sang. Begraben wurden die irdischen Reste neben denen seiner Gattin auf dem Mennonitischen Friedhof West von der Stadt.

— Funeral services for Jacob H. Krehbiel of Moundridge were held, Thursday, November 15, at the West Zion Mennonite church with Dr. J. H.Langenwalter of North Newton and Rev. W. F. Unruh, pastor of the church in charge. Mr. Krehbiel was 85 years old and a well known pioneer in the Moundridge community. He passed away on Tuesday, November 13 at the Halstead hospital. He leaves to mourn his departure two sons, Sam of Moundridge and Herbert of Junction City, and two daughters, Alice Krehbiel, Moundridge, and Leona of Bethel College, North Newton.

JACOB H. KREHBIEL

Jacob H. Krehbiel, son of Christian and Maria Krehbiel, was born in Lee County, Iowa, May 13, 1860, and died at the age of 85 years and six months.

He attended the church and public school at home and worked on the farm with his father and brothers until he came to Kansas in December 1884. On October 5, 1873, he gave public testimony of his Christian faith and was baptized by Rev. Christian Schowalter, and united with the Zion Mennonite church near Donnellson, Iowa.

In February, 1886, he began farming on the farm where he lived the rest of his life. He was married February 13, 1887, to Lena A. Ledig. To this union five children, two sons and three daughters were born. Coming to Kansas after their marriage they joined the First Mennonite church of Christian. Later when the West Zion Mennonite church was organized, they became charter members of that congregation.

His wife was called to her heavenly reward on the first day of May, 1928. He leaves to mourn his departure, Sam and Alice at the home; Herbert of Junction City; and Leona of North Newton. His daughter Maude (Mrs. J. B. Friesen) died on May 24, 1937. He leaves beside his children two grandchildren, Elaine and Gladys Friesen; one daughter-in-law and one sister, Mrs. John E. Krebill of Long Beach, California.

Services were conducted from the West Zion Mennonite church of Moundridge on Thursday afternoon, November 15, at 2:30 o’clock. Rev J. H. Langenwalter of Newton and Rev. W. F. Unruh were in charge. A quartet consisting of Alfred Meyer, Omer Rupp, John Regier and John Hirshler sang “The Lord Stills My Soul” and “Dort ist Ein Schoenes Land.” Mrs. Omer Rupp was the pianist and Mrs. W. J. Rupp the organist.

Pall bearers were D. R. Winsinger, C. W. Rupp, F. D. Meyer, Paul Rupp, W. D. Galle and D. W. Galle. Burial was by the side of his wife in the Mennonite cemetery west of Moundridge under the direction of Kaufman and Dreese.
