A tragedy occurred when two former local men lost their lives in a fire on March 2 at Bethel, where they lived. Jonathan Yoder, 86, died at 3 a.m. He is survived by six children, Mrs. Enid Stroup of Omaha, Neb., Grace Rager of Yeagerown, Arthur, Merle and Ivan of Belleville, and James of McVeytown; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He graduated from Juniata College and taught school, farmed and was parts manager at McClay and Sons. He was a member of Mountain View Mennonite church where services were held with Gerald Peachey officiating.
Irvin Frankhouser, Sr., 81, died in the same fire. Surviving are six children, Bernice Seitz of Lewistown, Jane Treaster, Sara Goddard and John, all of Barrville, Susan Kauffman of Milroy and Irvin, Jr., from Mississippi; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren survive. Retired from Standard Steel, he was a member of Barrville Mennonite Church, with Raymond Peachey in charge of the services.
