• Mr. and Mrs. Gus Martens, 420 West Seventh Street, experienced two deaths in the family on Monday and Friday. July 20 their son, Edwin P. Martins, 44, residing in Hutchinson, died suddenly of a heart attack. He had come home only the day before, after having been confined in the hospital for three weeks. On July 23 their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Esther M. Martens, 42, wife of Victor P. Martens, of Halstead, died in the Halstead Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Halstead Mennonite Church, with the pastor, Rev. A. E. Funk officiating. Surviving besides her husband and the parents-in-law of Newton are one daughter, Judy; three sons, Eugene, Loren and Donald, all of the home, five brothers, Ed, Frank, Menno, Elmer and Levi Wiens, all of Inman, and two sisters, Mrs. Ike Friesen, Meade, and Mrs. Ed Regier, Conway. Funeral services for Edwin P. Martens were held Monday afternoon at th First Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Bertha; two sons, Jim and Gerald, of the home; three brothers, Walt and Victor of Halstead and Melvin of Hesston; two sisters, Mrs. Phil Thiessen, Hutchinson, and Lois Ann Martens of Newton. | |||
