Bank President Dies in Farm Accident

O. B. SHOWALTER OF YODER, KAN. KILLED IN FALL FROM WAGON

Walker, Mo. — A fall from the top of a loaded hay wagon proved fatal here on Sept. 15 to O. B. Showalter, 67, president of the Yoder Farmers Savings Bank at Yoder, Kan. The fatal accident took place at the farm of a son, Russell Showalter, when he was knocked from the wagon by a tree limb.

The body was returned to Kansas, and funeral services were arranged for Wednesday forenoon at the West Liberty Mennonite Church near Windom, with Rev. S. E. King of Hutchinson officiating.

Mr. Showalter was formerly president of the Buhler State Bank. The accident took place on his 67th birthday.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Roberta Kreider of Hannibal; four sons, Russell of this place, Ray of Wadsworth, Ohio, Rev. Richard Showalter of Reedley, Calif.; and Robert, associated with his father in the bank; three brothers, six sisters, and 17 grandchildren.

OLIVER B. SHOWALTER

Oliver B. Showalter, son of C. B. and Lydia (Wenger) Showalter, was born near Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Va. on Sept 15, 1889. He departed this life on his 67th birthday. His death was the result of an accident suffered while visiting on the farm of his son, Russell, near Walker, Mo.

He came to Kansas when a young man of 18 years and located on a farm in McPherson County, Kansas. On Nov. 10, 1917, he was united in marriage to Saloma Yoder. To this union, five children were born. In 1927, he with his family moved to Yoder, Reno County, Kansas. Here he entered the banking business in which he was actively engaged until the last few years of his life. At the time of his death he was president of the Farmers State Bank of Yoder, Kansas. He was also president of the Buhler State Bank of Buhler, Kansas, until a few years ago. The last number of years he lived a semi-retired life, helping his children as needs arose.

He is survived by his sorrowing wife; four sons, Robert of Yoder, Kansas, Robert of Reedley, Calif., Russell of Walker, Mo., Ray of Wadsworth, Ohio; one daughter, Roberta, (Mrs. Harold Kreider) of Hannibal, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; three brothers, Edward of Kinross, Iowa, Amos of Harrisonburg, Va., John of Salem, Oregon; six sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Showalter of Harrisonburg, Hanna (Mrs. George Hilty) of Hammett, Idaho, Ada (Mrs. John Zimmerman) of Conway, Kansas, Nellie (Mrs. Silas Horst) of South English, Iowa, Clara (Mrs. Henry Cooprider) of McPherson, Kansas, and Laura Showalter of Scottdale, Pa., and many other relatives and friends. His is the first of this family of brothers and sisters to depart this life.

He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man in Harrisonburg, Va. When he moved to McPherson County, Kansas, he unite with the West Liberty Mennonite Church where he was a member at the time of his death. In the last years he had renewed his covenant with God. On various occasions he had given expressions of a personal faith in the atoning work of Christ and of his readiness to meet his Maker.

Funeral services were held on Sept.19 at the West Liberty Mennonite Church in McPherson County, Kansas, in charge of Menno M. Troyer, Harry A. Diener, and Sanford F. King. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
