•  Peter P. Schroeder, 88, a Newton resident for 52 years and formerly in the grocery business here, died Nov. 4 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital after a long illness.  He was preceded in death only 12 days earlier by his wife, Margaret.  Surviving are three children, Hulda of San Bernardino, Calif., Edith and Allison of Newton; seven sisters and one brother; and two grandchildren.  Funeral services for Mr. Schroeder were held Friday forenoon at the First Mennonite Church, with Rev. Arnold Epp officiating.
