— Funeral services were held at the Alexanderwohl church Saturday forenoon for Daniel B. Schmidt of Peabody, who died at the Goessel hospital on Wednesday at the age of 65, following a stroke of paralysis. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Janzen of Route 3, Newton and Mrs. Adolf Janzen of Peabody, and two sons, John of Montezuma and Walter of Peabody.

DANIEL B. SCHMIDT

Daniel B. Schmidt, youngest son of Bernard and Maria (Harford) Schmidt, was born on April 27, 1885, in Marion county, Kansas, and departed from this life on August 16, 1950 at 2:15 a. m. He reached the age of 65 years, three months and twenty days. He received his elementary education at the Antioch school in Marion county.

He was baptized upon the personal confession of his faith on June 11, 1905, by Elder Peter Balzer and was received as a member into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, of which he was a faithful member until his death.

On March 26, 1916, he was united in holy matrimony with Anna Schmidt. They shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 34 years, and to this union were born seven children, four sons and three daughters. It was a great joy for him when the Silver Wedding anniversary was celebrated on March 26, 1941.

Most of his life was spent in farming until poor health caused him to leave the farm and move to Peabody. He enjoyed his home here and by his many deeds of kindness, he showed his love and affection for his family. In his quiet ways he spent much of his time in sincere meditation.

On Sunday evening, August 13, he suffered a severe stroke which left him in very great pain. When his condition became worse, he was taken to the Bethesda hospital at Goessel on Tuesday morning where he passed away on the following morning at 2:15. He will be greatly missed by his family and many relatives and friends: however he gave us the assurance that he was ready to meet his Lord.

He leaves to mourn his passing his sorrowing wife, Anna, and the following children: Walter of Newton, Kansas, Mary Jane and family (Mrs. Edwin Janzen) of Newton, Alice Eileen (Mrs. Adolf Janzen) and family of Newton, and John of Montezuma, Kansas. Also two sons-in-law, one daughter-in law, six grandchildren, two sisters, and two brothers survive. One daughter, Martha Maxine, two sons, Dannie and Clarence Wesley, his parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Saturday. Aug. 19, at 1:15 p. m. in the Bergen funeral home, Goessel, and at 2:00 in the Alexanderwohl church, Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating. A quartet composed of Herbert Franz, Jake G. Flaming, Otto Janzen and Jake S. Penner furnished the music. Interment was made in the church cemetary [sic].
