•  Bernhard H. Schmidt, 86, of rural Peabody died Oct. 28 at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel after a long illness.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Newton First Mennonite Church, with Rev. Arnold Epp in charge.  A native of Marion County, Mr. Schmidt was a retired farmer.  Surviving are sons Ben of Wichita, Arthur K.., John K. and Mike, all of Newton; one daughter, Mrs. Leland Truax of Peabody; a stepson, Alvin Warkentin of Newton; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ben Hildebrandt of Newton; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
