WALTER K. EWERT

Walter K. Ewert, son of Henry A. and Susie (Krause) Ewert, was born July 13, 1915 at Lehigh, Kan. He was promoted to his heavenly home on April 1, 1963, at the age of 47years, eight months and 18 days.

In 1921 he moved with his family to Hooker, Okla. where he received most of his elementary education. Later he attended and graduated from high school in the Perryton, Texas vicinity.

In his early youth he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Christ as his personal Saviour, and became a member of the Mennonite Church.

Since Walt had a desire for bookkeeping, he attended and graduated from the Enid Business College of Enid, Okla.

On Aug. 20, 1940, he was united in marriage to Marian Sommer in the Elbing Missionary Church. For almost 23 years they walked life's pathway together.

The first few years of the marriage were spent in Enid, where he was employed in the office of the Champlin Oil Co. In 1943 he with his wife and two small daughters moved to the M. E. King ranch near Potwin, Kan. In 1947 moved to the H. B. Schmidt farm near Elbing, Kan. For the past eight years he had been working as bookkeeper and assistant manager of the Newell Oil Co. south of Newton. He loved his work and the people with whom he worked. Almost three years ago, he comfortably situated his family in their present home in Newton.

He was a member of the Elbing Missionary Church which he loved and served faithfully. His sincere devotion, spirit of generosity and sense of humor will not soon be forgotten.

Walt's health began to fail soon after Christmas, although he continued carrying his responsibilities until about six weeks ago. Almost four weeks of his illness were spent in the Bethel Hospital. There he appreciated the kind services of the doctor and nurses, the ministry of various pastors, the many beautiful cards, and most of all the prayers which were offered in his behalf.

He is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters, Carolyn Sue of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Betty Jane of Wichita, and Faith of the home; three sons, Manley, Tim and Tony of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Rudy Lichti of Saigon, Vietnam and Mrs. George Klassen of Buhler; and one brother, Irvin H. of Reedley, Calif. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.
