— Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church for Ed H. Wiens, 66, retired contractor and carpenter and a resident here for more than 60 years. Rev. Arnold Epp, the pastor, officiated. Mr. Wiens entered the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita on Oct. 5 for surgery and passed away Thursday, Oct. 10. Surviving are three sons, Richard of Kansas City, Mo., Clifford of Newton, and Edward of Wichita; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Unruh of Hutchinson; and two granddaughters. | |||

Edward Henry Wiens was born Nov. 16, 1890, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. His parents were Jacob and Mary Margaret Wiens. At the age of four he moved to Newton, Kansas with his parents. | |||
In the year 1905 he was baptized by Pastor Jacob Toews upon his confession of faith and was united with the First Mennonite Church of Newton, where he remained a faithful member until the time of his death. | |||
He attended public schools in Newton. Later he completed an architectural and building contractor correspondence course with International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, Pa. | |||
On Sept. 12, 1915, he was united in marriage with Helena A. Schmidt. To this union were born three sons, Edward Walter, Richard Theodore, and Clifford Herbert. | |||
Ed built many homes, several churches, and a number of business buildings in Newton and surrounding towns in Harvey County. Building was a part of him and he was very happy in construction work. | |||
His wife Helena passed away August 20, 1949. | |||
In February, 1956 he became ill and was unable to resume his normal business day. It was necessary for him to discontinue working. His health gradually failed and on Oct. 10, 1957, at 11:35 a.m. he died at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. | |||
He is survived by his three sons, two granddaughters, one sister, Mrs. A. D. Unruh of Hutchinson, and a host of other relatives and friends. | |||
