D. T. EDIGER
David T. Ediger was born to David D. and Helena Thiessen Ediger on a farm one and one-quarter miles north of Buhler, Kan on Dec. 18, 1875. Here he spent his childhood and youth.
In September 1898 he sensed his need of a Saviour at an evening service at which Bro. J. F. Duerksen used the text from Hebews 4:7: ”Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.” He acknowledged his lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in faith. He was baptized by Elder Abraham Schellenberg on Dec. 11, 1898 and was accepted into the Ebenezer Mennonite Brethren church where he remained a faithful member till his homegoing.
Throughout his life father enjoyed good health. He was a good husband and father and provided well for his family. Early on the morning of Jan. 24, 1960 he suffered a stroke and was taken to Grace hospital, Hutchinson. Later, he contacted pneumonia and developed a heart condition from which he did not recover. He quietly fell asleep to be with his Lord on Feb. 2, 1960. Father attained the age of 84 years, one month and eleven days.
He was united in marriage to Eva Schierling on May 17, 1898 by Rev. John Esau. They established their home on a farm two miles east of Buhler where they resided till 1941 when they retired to Buhler. They enjoyed 61 years of married life together, and observed their silver, golden and diamond anniversaries. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. One grandson, Thomas David Ediger, and five sisters, Mrs. Agatha Reimer, Mrs. Helena Klassen, Mrs. Marie Letkeman, Mrs. Anna Boese, and Mrs. Katherine Franz, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his departure his widow, Eva; three sons, Abe S. and Frances Ediger of Wasco, Calif., Dave S. and Edna Ediger of Buhler, Kansas, Eldo S. and Marie Ediger of Buhler, Kansas; two daughters, Helen and Sam Buschman of Temple, Texas, Anna and Ted Aaron of Wichita, Kansas; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jake T. Ediger of Abbottsford, B. C.; John T. Ediger and Henry T. Ediger, both of Buhler; two sisters; Mrs John F. Friesen of Corn, Okla. and Mrs. Elizabeth Franz of Wichita, Kansas.
Father was faithful in Sunday school and church attendance and found great joy in the reading of the Word. To the children he was a faithful, loving and praying father. He also enjoyed music and on his death bed several times sang the German song, “O Dann Werden Sie Glanzen wie die Sternie so rein.”
Besides being occupied with his farm and family father found time for service to the church. He served in the building committee at the time the present church building was built. He also showed great interest in the development of the Sunshine Mission Home and was a member of the committee when the original building was purchased. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the church for several years.
As a family we shall miss father and his loving and considerate ways. We mourn the loss of him but are comforted in the blessed hope that he is now in the presence of the Lord and is resting from his labors. — Mrs. Eva Ediger, Children and Grandchildren.
