— Mrs. D. J. Ediger, 74, former resident of the Buhler community, died at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel on June 19 after a long illness. Funeral services were held Friday forenoon at the Buhler Mennonite Church. She is survived by eight sons, John and Roland of Hutchinson, Art, Dave, Irven and Lee of Buhler, Albert of Moundridge, and Elmer of north Newton; one daughter, Mrs. P. B. Voth; one sister, Mrs. P. H. Ediger of Inman; and four brothers, A. B. Martens of Buhler, J. B. and H. B. Martens of Inman, and G. B. Martens of Newton.

MRS. D. J. EDIGER

Annie Martens Ediger, daughter of John and Anna (Balzer) Martens, was born on August 21, 1881 near Buhler, Kansas. her elementary education she received in the Hill school near her home.

When she was 19 years old she received Christ as her Savior and was baptized by Elder Bernhard Buhler and received into the membership of the Hebron church.

On September 17, 1901 she was married by Elder Buhler to David J. Ediger at the home of her parents. soon afterward she joined the Hoffnungsau Mennonite church where our father was a member.

Our parents lived together for over 46 years. To this union were born 11 children, two daughters and nine sons, of whom two preceded our parents in death: Katherine, Mrs. D. H. Kasper in 1937, and Raymond in 1927.

Our parents moved about, establishing homes at Medora, Inman, Greensburg, Meade, and later at Buhler. their church membership was always transferred to a church near their home. Mother bore her share of all the work of rearing a large family with patience and much joy. In 1925 our parents moved back to a farm near Buhler, close to a good grade and high school, as the education of their children was an important matter to them.

Through the years mother had comparatively good health, but the strain and hardships encountered along the way finally brought her physical suffering and nervous exhaustion. As she grew older, these periods when she would go through great mental and spiritual anguish came oftener, but with God's help and father and children standing by her, she would always come through to be her usual energetic self.

After several strokes and a severe heart attack, she became more and more helpless, making it necessary that some one be with her day and night. The last year of her life she spent in Bethesda Hospital, Goessel, where doctors and nurses made her as comfortable as possible.

Mother was released from her earthly abode on June 19, 1956, at 6 p.m., having reached the age of 74 years, nine months, and 29 days.

Her memory will be revered by her eight sons, John and Roland of Hutchinson, Art, Dave, Irven and Leo of Buhler, Albert of Moundridge, Elmer of Newton, and one daughter, Minnie. Mrs. P. B. Voth of Buhler; eight daughters-in-law and one son-in-law. Mother Ediger is survived by one sister, Mrs. P. H. Ediger, Inman; four brothers, A. B. martens of Buhler, J. B. Martens and H. B. Martens of Inman, and G. B. Martens of Newton; 22 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives. — The Children.
