• Peter D. Dirks, 81, died Monday at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro after a short illness. His wife, the former Louise Wedel, died Jan. 23 at Parkside Homes where the couple had been residents. Mr. Dirks, a retired farmer, lived in the Buhler community most of his life. His first marriage was to Marie Nachtigal. Following her death, he married Lena Dick, and she died in 1927. He married Louise Wedel in 1928. Survivors include a son, Ernest, of Hillsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Sommerfeld and Mrs. Irvin Fast, both of Newton; brothers, Ben of Buhler and Fred of Newton; and sisters, Mrs. Mary Deckert of Turlock, Calif., Mrs. Helen Dick of Moundridge, and Mrs. Margaret Richert of Cimarron; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Hoffnungsau Church near Inman, with Rev. Dick Rempel and Rev. Roland Goering in charge.
