Mrs. Emma Daum, daughter of Jacob H. and Helena Stucky, was born March 26, 1899, at Moundridge, Kansas, where she spent her childhood. Her young adult life was spent in the western states. She returned to Kansas in 1927. She was a graduate of Western Washington Teachers College, and for a number of years taught school in Montana, Washington, and Kansas. On May 18, 1930, she was married to Jacob Daum. | |||
Mrs. Daum was employed for many years by the Elyria Mercantile Company, and while thus employed she made the acquaintanceship of a great number of friends. For years she was subject to times of very poor health. However, she succeeded in throwing off the ravages of disease and despite times of great suffering she was able to carry on an active life in her community and in her home, as wife and mother. through her industry and her love for her family and friends, she made her home a haven of rest and happiness. | |||
She was a member of the Hopefield Mennonite Church from the time of her baptism. Later she transferred her membership to the Eden Mennonite church, where for many years she served as Sunday school teacher. Her faith and her religious hope sustained her many times in trying hours. Her major concern was for the spiritual well-being and salvation for herself and her family through faith and trust in her Saviour. | |||
During the last six weeks of her life she suffered extreme agony of mind and body. She died on June 12, 1959, having reached the age of a few months over sixty years. She leaves to mourn this departure her husband, Jacob, her son Kermit, her daughter Jeanette, a son-in-law Ronald Friesen, and her grandson, Kevin. In addition, she leaves five sisters, Mrs. D. J. Stucky of Moundridge, Mrs. B. C. Schmidt of Stanford, Mont., Mrs. J. L. Stucky of McPherson. Her surviving brothers are Edward Stucky of Snohomish, Wash. and Phillip Stucky of Seattle. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1947 and her father in 1955. | |||
Memorial services were held June 16 at the Eden Mennonite Church, Rev. Arnold Nickel officiating. Music was furnished by Harold Beam and the Eden Male Quartet. Burial was made in the Eden Cemetery. | |||
