— Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Mary E. Yoder, wife of Samuel J. Yoder of Route 1, Hutchinson, last Sunday morning. Funeral services were to be held Wednesday afternoon at the Yoder Mennonite Church, with H. A. Diener, A. A. Bontrager and Edward Yutzy in charge. A native of Shipshewana, Ind., Mrs. Yoder had lived in the Hutchinson vicinity for 56 years.

MRS. MARY YODER

Mary (Schrock) Yoder, daughter of Ed. S. and Sarah (Troyer) Schrock, was born Aug. 18, 1889, at Shipshewana, Ind. She passed away Feb. 26, 1956, at her home at Hutchinson, Kansas, reaching the age of 66 years, six months and eight days. She passed to her eternal Home after being ill three years with a heart ailment.

She came to the Hutchinson community with her parents in 1900. She was married to Samuel J. Yoder on March 23,1909. They lived in matrimony almost 47 years. She is survived by her husband; three daughters and two sons, Wilma and Verna of the home, Ralph of Alpha, Minn., Lizzie Mae, wife of Wilbur Selzer, Canton, Kan., and Melvin of Hutchinson, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters, Ervin of Cochranton, Pa., Will of Hutchinson, Kan., Ed of Haven, Kan., Tobe of Clarksville, Mich., Lizzie, Mrs. Joe Yutzy, and Saraann [sic Sarah Ann], Mrs. Jake Troyer, both of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Sam E. Schrock, an infant daughter and two infant granddaughters.

In her youth she became a Christian and united with the Amish Mennonite Church. In 1924 she and her husband united with the Yoder Mennonite Church of which she was a faithful member until death. She was one who lived her Christian life, willing to help in the work of the church whenever she had the opportunity. She served as Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was a faithful wife and a tender mother. She took special delight and interest in her grandchildren, was a kind neighbor and a patient sufferer. Asa mother and grandmother she showed interest in the spiritual life of her descendants, often praying for them. In her sickness, she desired to be stronger but without murmer [sic] submitted herself to the will of the Lord. She will be much missed in her home, church and community.

Funeral services were conducted at the Yoder Mennonite Church on Feb. 29, 1956, by the home ministers, Harry A. Diener, Andrew A. Bontrager and Edward Yutzy. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
