Retired Businessman Dies At Goshen
Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Christian J. Bontrager, 88, for many years owner and operator of an ice cream plant here, were held Sunday, April 27, at a funeral home here. His pastor, Rev. Robert Hartzler of the Eighth Street Mennonite Church, officiated.
Mr. Bontrager founded the Maple City Ice Cream Co. here in 1926. A native of Lagrange County, he took part in the run to the Cherokee Strip and won a homestead in Oklahoma in 1892, returning to Indiana in 1914.
Survivors include two daughters and a son, all of Goshen; one sister, Mrs. Jacob Yoder of Topeka; a half-sister, Kate Miller of Lagrange; and a half-brother, Noah J. Bontrager of Elkhart.
