ANNA BOESE

Anna Boese, daughter of Rev. Friedrich and Elizabeth Koehn Schartner, was born Feb. 23, 1892 near Marion, S. D. Here she received her limited education and grew to womanhood.

She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized by her brother, Rev. Jacob Schartner, on May 9, 1915. She united with the Schartner Church and later transferred her membership to the Friedensburg Mennonite Church near Avon, S.D. where she remained a faithful member until her death.

On Sept 1, 1918 she was married to Jacob M. Boese of Springfield, S.D. They made their home on a farm there until February of 1953 when they retired and moved to Freeman, S.D. Our father was taken from us by his sudden death on May 22, 1957.

Since mother was unable to stay alone in her home due to a stroke suffered in February 1957, she entered the Salem Home in Freeman, where she stayed until she was hospitalized in the fall of 1970. After that she needed nursing care and became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Tripp, S.D. A month ago mother became ill and was taken to the Freeman Hospital where she passed away of a heart attack on June 28, 1973. She reached the age of 81.

Mother’s life left no room for doubt as to her living relationship to Christ. She spent many hours reading her Bible and praying for her children and grandchildren and their families. Her life has been a constant source of challenge and inspiration to her family.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters and six brothers. Those left by her passing are her four children, Martha, Mrs. Ernest Tschetter and N. Norman, both of Freeman, Ruben of Avon, S.D., and Marie of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Margaret, Mrs. N. Norman Boese; one son-in-law, Ernest Tschetter; eight grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Isaac Schartner of Marion, S. D.

She was laid to rest in the Friedensburg cemetery.
