JACOB (JAKE) MATTIES

Jacob (Jake) Matties died Jan. 14, 2008. He was born May 24, 1914 to Wilhelm and Justina Matties in Slavgorod, Siberia. Jake's mother died when he was six, and after his father remarried, the family moved to Moscow in 1929, eventually immigrating to Rosthern, Sask. Jake worked for various farmers and delivered milk. After his family moved to La Glace, Alta., he began farming in Valhalla Centre, Alta. Jake accepted Christ as Saviour at 20 and was baptized in LaGlace MB Church, attending Bible school for 2 years. He met Louise Riesen in Yarrow, B.C., and they married in Oct. 1944. They ran a raspberry farm and later purchased a dairy farm in East Chilliwack. They were church custodians in Yarrow, B.C., and upon retirement moved to Clearbrook, joining Bakerview MB Church. Jake was an active member in church in prayer and sound ministries. He is mourned by Louise; 6 siblings; nephews and nieces. The memorial service was Jan. 18 at Clearbrook MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C.
