Jacob H. Base, our father, was born in Kreisstadt, Russia on Sept. 3, 1873; and died in McAllen, Texas on Dec. 27, 1961. He reached the age of 88 years, three months and 24 days. His parents were Henry and Elsa Jansen Base. | |||
The family emigrated from Russia to the U. S. in 1874 and settled near Orrville, Ohio. In 1901 our father came to Oklahoma, settling on a farm north of Geary. Here he became a member of the First Mennonite Church. | |||
On march 11, 1902 he entered the holy estate of matrimony with Celesta Amstutz; this union was blessed with three sons. | |||
Jake, as he was known to his friends and neighbors, was a well known figure in farming circles since he operated a threshing machine for many years. In 1929 father and mother moved to Mission, Texas to take up farming in the "Valley". Here they joined the Mission Alliance Church of McAllen. After the death of mother in 1956 father became quite lonely and so about a year ago he entered a rest home in McAllen. Here he passed away after a brief illness. He leaves to mourn his passing his three sons, Erwin of Edinburgh, Tex., Clarence and Harvey of Geary, three daughters-in-law; four brothers, five sisters; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. | |||

JACOB H. BASE
Jacob H. Base, our father, was born in Kreisstadt, Russia on Sept. 3, 1873; and died in McAllen, Texas on Dec. 27, 1961. He reached the age of 88 years, three months and 24 days. His parents were Henry and Elsa Jansen Base.
